Help Your Local Community
Help us feed families doing it tough
New Zealand farmers nourish millions globally, yet many Kiwi’s can’t afford to put a healthy meal on their tables.
With over $8.7 billion dollars worth of meat exported annually, how is it that a packet of mince is out of reach of so many of our own?
You can help us bridge this gap, ensuring that every New Zealander has access to nutritious protein.
By donating a tiny fraction of what you produce, together we can help solve food insecurity in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Livestock Donation Options
Donate through partnered suppliers or virtually online here
You can donate livestock directly through one of our partnered suppliers: Silver Fern Farms, Alliance, Hazlett, or FreshPork.
Otherwise, you can go through your normal processor and donate using some of those proceeds online here.
Whether it’s through your processor or virtually, 100% of your generous support goes directly to providing meat to those going without.

You can donate livestock directly through one of our partnered suppliers:
- Silver Fern Farms
Let your Silver Fern Farms livestock rep know what you'd like to donate when you next send your animals away. The donation will then be deducted from the cull sheet and paid directly to Meet the Need. - Alliance
Log your livestock donation directly through the Farm Alliance Portal. The value will then be deducted and paid directly to Meet the Need. - Hazlett
Advise your Hazlett agent or enter your wishes in the comments box of the animal declaration form. - FreshPork
Email the Fresh Pork New Zealand team directly to get involved.
If you don't usually supply Silver Fern Farms, you are welcome to do a one-off donation through them. It is just a matter of getting in touch with your local rep to set up an account and organise the donation.
Otherwise, you can go through your normal processor and use some of those proceeds to make a donation online as virtual livestock above, with 100% going directly to providing meat to families going without.
Not exactly. When you donate livestock, the value of the animal is deducted from your cull sheet and made to us as a cash donation. 100% of those funds are then used to supply food banks and community organisations with beef mince produced by Silver Fern Farms. Therefore, the virtual livestock donation option above operates just as it would if you were donating directly through your supplier.
When Meet the Need was setup in partnership with Silver Fern Farms in 2020, the value of mutton, lamb, deer and cows were given a set donated value for operational ease and transparency. Whilst the value of livestock has increased since, these values remain the same.
Ultimately Meet the Need has always been about giving back a little bit of what is produced, even if that's part of an animal's value, and we appreciate however much you are able to give.
When you donate livestock through one of our partnered suppliers, we will email a donation receipt once we've received the donation from them. Please note that sometimes these donations come through anonymously, and therefore we have no way to contact you or send a receipt. If you have donated livestock through one of our partners and haven't received a receipt, please get in touch with us on 0800 632 884 or email hello@meettheneed.org.nz. We will be able to find the donation through your supplier number and issue the receipt accordingly.
When you donate livestock virtually online above, you will automatically have a donation receipt sent to your email address shortly afterwards. Please check your spam folder in case it doesn't arrive in your inbox.
Whilst we do not distribute homekill, we are happy to help connect you to food banks and community organisations in your area who would happily benefit from receiving the meat. You can learn more about MPI's rules and food safety regarding homekill on their website.
With each kilogram of meat, you’re helping us deliver nutritious meals to those facing hunger and food insecurity in our community.
